Bhakti Yoga in Lanzarote: connection, presence and a different way to experience yoga

Sometimes we think of yoga as a series of postures. And it is, in part. But there are days when what we need most is not to stretch further or do it better, but simply to stop, listen and feel ourselves again. That is how we understand Bhakti Yoga in Lanzarote: as a practice lived through presence, movement, breath and connection. With yourself, with the people sharing the practice and with the place where we are.

What is Bhakti Yoga?

Bhakti Yoga is one of the traditional paths of yoga. It is known as the yoga of devotion, although perhaps the simplest way to explain it is as a yoga practised from the heart.

It isn't only physical exercise. The postures are there, but they come together with other things that are just as important: conscious breathing, attention to what we feel, gratitude and connection with what is essential.

That is why, alongside movement, mantras, breathing and moments of silence and meditation have an important place in a Bhakti Yoga practice. You don't need to know any philosophy or have an advanced practice to enjoy it: all you need is the wish to be present.

If you'd like to know how it differs from other practices, in our article Bhakti Yoga vs. Expressive Movement we explain how to choose the one that suits you best.

How we practise Bhakti Yoga at Lavanda Zen

In the Bhakti Yoga classes we have shared so far, the first thing that appears is calm. Some of these sessions have taken place by the sea, with the mats on the sand, the sound of the waves and the open horizon in front of us.

We begin by arriving: sitting down, closing our eyes and letting the breath find its own rhythm. From there, the class takes shape little by little. In every session we include:

  • Meditation and mindful relaxation
  • Mantras and pranayama (conscious breathing)
  • Asanas (postures)
  • Yoga philosophy applied to daily life
  • Vibrational sound with Tibetan singing bowls

There are moments of movement and moments of silence. And in both you can feel something hard to put into words: the sense of practising together, each in our own way, but sharing the same intention.

Our intention is that, when the class ends, you can take a little of that calm with you: a feeling of lightness, tranquillity and connection with yourself. For us, that is the essence of this practice.

A different practice for each person

You don't need any previous experience. Some people come after years of practice and others come to yoga for the first time. Both have their place.

Everyone experiences the practice differently. For some it is a moment of rest; for others, a way to release tension or reconnect with their body. There is no right way to feel it.

That is why we pay special attention to body awareness and respect for your own limits, adapting the practice to each person's pace and moment.

Classes last 60 minutes and can be private, in person or online, or in a group. The online option also lets you keep practising when you return home. You will find all the details and prices on our page for Bhakti Yoga classes in Lanzarote.

Practising yoga in Lanzarote

Lanzarote has something that invites you to slow down. The light, the sea, the volcanic landscape and the wind make it easier to step away from routine and pay attention to the present moment.

Practising yoga in Playa Blanca, with the ocean in front of you, has a special effect: the surroundings support the practice without needing to do anything more.

A yoga class can be a lovely way to start the day calmly or to end a day of exploring the island.

Whether you live in Lanzarote or are visiting, Bhakti Yoga can be a simple way to give yourself a pause and experience the island from a different place.

Sharing the practice

Bhakti Yoga is also very enjoyable in company. We organise sessions for private groups: friends who want to share a different experience during their holiday, couples, families or groups meeting for a special occasion.

It can also be part of a private retreat in Lanzarote, combined with other well-being experiences.

Practising together creates a beautiful atmosphere, in which each person goes through their own process while feeling supported by the group.

A space to come back to yourself

In the end, Bhakti Yoga doesn't ask you to do more, but to be more present in who you already are.

A more conscious breath, a moment of silence, a movement made with attention. Sometimes that is enough to come home, to yourself.

If you'd like to experience it, we'll be happy to welcome you to your next class in Lanzarote.
